The story behind the brand

I first saw surfing when I was 10 years old, gazing out of my bedroom window overlooking Dobroyd Head on Sydney's North Shore.

It was May 24, 1974, and a cyclone was battering the coast of Australia, creating some of the wildest conditions the east coast had witnessed in living memory. Little black dots made big, arcing tracks down the faces of waves and back up into the foam. I was hooked.

OUR STORY

Stories Shaped by the Sea

These films offer a closer look at the people, places, and processes behind the boards. Shot along the Australian coastline and beyond, they explore craftsmanship, connection to environment, and the quiet moments that shape how and why we ride.

Less about hype, more about intention — each film reflects the values that guide our work, from hand-shaping to time in the water.

Many of the films featured here are produced by needessentials.

Go Cusom

A board shaped for your lines, your waves, your journey. The process is personal—one-on-one, from idea to execution. A surfboard shaped not just for how you move through the water, but how you move through the world. If one of our stock boards doesn’t quite match your dimensions, the waves you’re chasing, or the way you like to surf, a custom build gives you the chance to get it just right
